Independent Employer vs. Employer Consortium
Two ways to meet the same DOT requirement — choose the random pool structure that fits your company.
Independent Employer Consortium
An employer with a large group of employees joins this consortium. Random selection is performed only on the company's own employees:
- 50% of the employees are selected for the random D.O.T. drug test
- 10% are selected for the random D.O.T. alcohol test
Employer Consortium (shared pool)
An employer with a smaller group of employees — like 2 or 3 drivers — joins this consortium, where drivers from a group of companies are combined into one large pool. From that pool:
- 50% of the participants are selected for the random D.O.T. drug test
- 10% are selected for the random D.O.T. alcohol test
